Brother

You loved one child.
A son.
Two girls were there
in shadows.
Huddling together
each planning the death
of the other.
Less competition
might be the answer.

The light shone brightly
on the boy
No girl could edge
into it's warm light.
He was always the one,
The only child you wanted.

In my child's mind
I thought you saw me.
But I was invisible
a shadow,
an afterthought,
No one important.

I shouldn't have been surprised
When you left.
You were never really there
Except for him.

And now,
He has abandoned you.
Left you
with a daughter
who treats you
like a slave.

I wonder.
Do you regret
your choices now?
Or do you still
make excuses
for the one?
