No Clown Zone
What's funny about white faces?
The face of sickness, death, vampires.
The juxtaposition of bloodless flesh
against crooked teeth
makes them yellow, fanglike, rotten.
What's so funny about red noses?
Drunk old men sporting gin blossoms,
Leering and calling out obscenities
To little girls passing by.
Battered woman red, bleeding, hurt.
What's so funny about balloon animals?
Twisting, squealing, bursting
Arms, legs and bodies forced to comply
Or risk destruction.
Sprained, bruised, broken, silent.
You brought clowns to my parties.
"Clowns are so funny," you cried.
I cried too because I could not sleep.
Clowns eat children,
Ripping, tearing, hurting.
I've grown up now and my world
Is a No Clown Zone.
They're still out there watching, waiting.
But I don't invite them in.
How could you not know?
Clowns are evil.
