Lamentations
I woke this morning and
I thought of you.
I would have turned over
And gathered you in my arms
But...
You were sleeping
Under another moon.
As the thin light of day
Shyly edged it's way
Across my pillow
I thought of you.
I would have gently
Kissed your forehead
But...
You were having coffee with another
In the faraway dawn.
As my day unfolded
I thought of you.
I would have encircled your waist
In the deli line.
But...
You were lunching alone
Under a bright distant sun.
I drank a glass of wine
Curled up in bed and
I thought of you.
I would have gathered you in my arms
But...
You were miles and miles away
Sleeping under another moon.
